A flash of red - Amanda Pratt

A flash of red

among the trees,

A ribbon floating

in the breeze,

Where did it come from?

Where is it going?

There really is

no way of knowing,

Did it once adorn

a girl’s long plait?

Or sit around

a fancy hat?

Perhaps it tied

a bunch of flowers,

Sent with love

to last for hours,

Maybe a teddy

handsome in red,

Is now bare necked

laid on the bed,

A lover's letters

tied in a bow,

Full of life

and full of woe,

A flash of red

among the trees,

A ribbon floating

In the breeze.
